Best Chess Players of History:

Chess is a game of brain and of course if we wish to judge who is the best player we must consider the individual brilliance as the top most criterions. Another important decisive factor is the length of career because the more time a person spent in a certain field the more expert he becomes. Based on this following is a list of best chess players of history:

 Alexander Alekine (1892 - 1946)

Alexander Alekhine (1892-1946): In 1927 Alexander Alekhine’s talent was recognized for the first time when he defeated Jose Capablanca. His performance throughout his career was outstanding except a period when he was indulged in alcoholism in 1930’s.

Bobby Fischer (1943-2008)

Bobby Fischer (1943-2008): Starting his chess journey when he was only 14, he has many qualities to be considered a best chess player of history. He was the youngest grandmaster at the age of 15.

Jose Capablanca (1888 - 1942)

Jose Capablanca (1888-1942): He is no doubt one of the best chess players of history. He was very talented and was also known as the "Mozart" of chess.

Mikhail Botvinnik (1911 - 1955)

Mikhail Botvinnik (1911-1995): He is not only a best player but also a trainer of many greats. He has a huge contribution to the field. He learned chess when he was 12 years oldand then on and off keeps on receiving many distinctions in the field starting from school awards to world championships.

Wilhelm Steinitz (1836 - 1900)

Wilhelm Steinitz (1836-1900): He has a great contribution to the field of chess; he gave a new meaning to the game and introduced positional play which differs significantly from ‘all out attack’ method. He also contributed towards standardization of world championships.

Emmanuel Lasker (1868-1941)

Emanuel Lasker (1868-1941): For him to be considered as the best player his 27 years of world championship is enough. He gave a new touch to the chess of pursuing it as a career.

Paul Morphy (1837-1884)

Paul Morphy (1837-1884): He was no doubt the best chess player started his journey of playing chess by age 9. Many of the chess experts and players of his time think it a waste of time to play with a kid but later on after losing a match with him recognized his abilities. Unfortunately he didn’t continue his career as a chess player and therefore has less contribution in the field.

Modern day rankings shows that traditionally strong countries may be giving way to new entrants.
